Our History
Henry F. Shaffner built his palatial Victorian-style home in 1907. Created by Northup and O’Brien, the house incorporated conventional elements of its era along with innovations that were notably modern for the time.

Reservations & Policies
What is your cancellation policy?
One hundred percent (100.00%) of the total booking charges will be refunded if the cancellation is made more than 7 days prior to the arrival date of the reservation. For cancellations made within 7 days prior to the arrival date, no refund will be issued.
How do I make a reservation?
You can make a reservation by calling 336-794-0660 or book directly online through our website.
Are there any additional taxes and fees added to your room rate?
Each reservation booked directly will have occupancy tax and state and county sales tax added.
Is there a deposit required?
There is not a deposit required for single-room bookings. For large room blocks and entire house rentals, a refundable deposit of $500 is necessary to cover potential damages.
Is smoking allowed on your property?
No smoking is allowed inside either of our inns. There are designated, outside smoking areas at each property.
Do you have any pet-friendly rooms?
Pets are not allowed at our Summit Street Inns Property. We have one pet-friendly room at The Shaffner Inn, if you would like to book Twin City Suites at our sister property.
What time is check-in and check-out?
Check-in time is 4:00 pm. Check-out time is 11:00 am.
Is early check-in or late check-out available?
Whenever possible, we make an effort to accommodate early check-ins or late check-outs. However, availability depends on occupancy and our housekeeping schedule.
Can I drop my bags off early?
Provided with advance notice, we can typically arrange for luggage drop-off in the event your room is not ready.
Is it permissible to invite friends who are not staying at the inn to enjoy the facilities?
While we strive to create a welcoming atmosphere for all, our amenities are intended for the exclusive use of registered guests. This policy ensures fairness and avoids overcrowding, allowing all paying guests to fully enjoy their stay.

What types of rooms do you offer?
Our rooms boast king beds (except one queen) and en-suites with clawfoot tubs, walk-in showers, or both.
Are there rooms with private balconies and entrances?
At Summit Street Inns, there are private balconies. The Chesterfield Grand Suite and Ludlow Grand Suite both have private balconies and entrances.
Do any of your rooms connect?
We have two sets of rooms that connect at The Shaffner Inn.

Do you offer breakfast or other complimentary services?
Enjoy a complimentary breakfast each morning of your stay. As a guest of Summit Street Inns, you can choose from a continental breakfast in the Sheppard House or travel just 1 mile to enjoy a full breakfast at Founders Restaurant in The Shaffner Inn; every booking includes two full breakfasts, featuring an entree item, coffee, and juice for each guest. Each guest also receives a split of wine and chocolate on the first night of their stay.
Can I invite an outside guest to join me for breakfast?
Please inform us in advance about any extra guests for your breakfast reservation, and we will do our best to accommodate them. However, outside guests are required to cover their own breakfast expenses.
Can I request a special arrangement or service?
Explore our range of additional amenities by consulting with our booking team or hostess staff if you have specific preferences. Among our most popular special services are charcuterie boards, wine, champagne, and chocolate-covered strawberries.
Do you accommodate dietary restrictions?
We are equipped to cater to various dietary restrictions, encompassing gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, and vegan options.
Do you have allergen-free bath products?
Our bath products at Summit Street Inns are gluten-free, paraben-free and sulfate-free.
Is parking available, and is there a cost?
Free, private parking is available behind the inn for all of our guests.

Situated in the heart of downtown, Summit Street Inns is close to a multitude of restaurants and attractions. It is within walking distance to first class restaurants including Mozelle’s Southern Bistro, Bernardin’s, and Fourth Street Filling Station, as well as a great co*cktail bar, Joyner’s. The Shaffner Inn is close to a variety of restaurants and attractions, as well, including Old Salem, Di Lisio’s Italian Restaurant, and BYGood Coffee and Camino Bakery: Brookstown.
