Just Add Pink!

After you’ve packed away the obvious Christmas items, pull out your pink! Add pink to the red and you’ve instantly got Valentine’s decor. I like to decrease the green a bit, too. But there’s always green in every room of my home, because I love to use real and faux foliage for an organic touch. And it’s my favorite color;)

I picked up these pretty vintage Chinese paper lanterns at an estate sale. I realized my new favorite battery operated candles fit perfectly in the holders! They are so much prettier with light inside, and you should see them at night! I simply switch off all my faux candles at night with the remote. The faceted flame on these little candles cast such pretty shadows inside cupboards. I love tucking them everywhere. (You can find the faceted candles HERE. Birch faux candles HERE)

Display Pretty Dishes as Valentine’s Decor

I’m a dish-a-holic; Mr. Fix-it says I could “feed the 5000”. I don’t only use dishes to set the table or to eat off of. They can be the backbone of your decorating. For beautiful Valentine’s decor, I pull out my pink depression, my pink Fire King and my ruby thumbprint. The colorful glass plates catch the winter sunshine and give the whole room a rosy glow. I tuck footed goblets, stacks of dishes and cups and saucers into my glass front kitchen cupboards.

My vintage scale collection and other vintage finds are displayed with old stools, old books, cake plates and bread boxes to give different heights and add interest. Each shelf has a battery powered candle so at night there’s twinkly light on each shelf. Perfect for dark winter nights.

Decorate a Valentine’s Tree with Sentimental DIY Ornaments

When I was in college, I was feeling bad that I didn’t have a boyfriend:( One day in late January, my mom surprised me by bringing a whole box of handmade Valentine’s decorations to me, along with a cute artificial Christmas tree. She and my grandparents had made all kinds of pretty ornaments with paper, felt and glitter. Now that mom is gone, her hand-written bible verses about love are even more special to me.

I haven’t had the Valentine’s tree up for a couple of years, but decided this year I needed it. My Happy Girl just got engaged before Christmas, so we are all about romance and love this year! I just may decide to make a surprise tree for her apartment;)
