But homemade bathroom cleaners are an easy way to keep bathrooms as clean as they can be, and they're less expensive than buying a specially made cleaner at the store.
Even better, this homemade bathroom cleaner is all-purpose, so you can use it just as effectively on soap-scum covered shower doors as you can on dusty and dirty bathroom countertops. Here's what you need to know to make it yourself.
Before You Begin
You'll notice that there's one very common homemade cleaning ingredient that's missing from this cleaner's supply list: dish soap. Though dish soap is commonly used in all types of homemade cleaners, it's best not to use it in vinegar-based cleaners, like this bathroom cleaner is.
Why? Vinegar is acidic—that's what makes it such a great cleaner—while dish soap is a base, which is the opposite of acidic. When combined, the two effectively cancel each other out, giving you a cleaning combination that's not actually effective. That's why it's best to use only one in homemade cleaners, and the extra-impressive cleaning powers of vinegar make it an easy choice for stain- and soap scum-filled bathrooms.

How to Make Your Own Homemade Bathroom Cleaner
Pick a Container
Making a homemade bathroom cleaner is as easy as can be. But before you get around to actually making the cleaner, you'll need to pick a container for it first. What container you pick depends largely upon where you'll be using the bathroom cleaner—if you plan to use it mostly on bathroom surfaces, use an empty spray bottle. However, if you're hoping to use the bathroom cleaner to scrub away soap stains in sinks or showers, use an empty soap-dispensing brush or scrubber.
Combine Water and Vinegar
Next, gather your supplies. You'll need white vinegar, your favorite essential oils, and some water. Combine one part vinegar with one part water inside your empty spray bottle or soap scrubber. If your container is too small to mix things in, combine the ingredients in a larger bowl, then funnel them in.
Add Your Favorite Essential Oils
Here comes the fun part—making the homemade bathroom cleaner smell great. (However, if you're sensitive to fragrance, skip this part. The unscented cleaner will smell quite strong upon application, but the odor will fade.)
Grab your essential oils and add up to 10 drops to your spray bottle, or up to five if you're using a soap-dispensing scrubber. You can combine scents for a more complex fragrance—a few of our favorite combos are relaxing orange and lavender, seasonal rosemary and thyme, and refreshing peppermint and eucalyptus.
Looking to truly go all-natural? You can even let citrus peels, herbs, and spices sit inside a spray bottle of vinegar and water to add some slow-steeped scent.
Get Cleaning
This homemade bathroom cleaner is multipurpose and incredibly easy to use. Spray it on your glass shower door before showering, then rinse off with hot water after you finish your shower. Give your counters a spritz to wipe away dust and grime. Spray a small amount onto a microfiber cloth and use it to gently clean your faucets and other bathroom hardware.
Use your cleaner-loaded scrubber to say goodbye to soap or hard water stains that have collected in the grout lines. This bathroom clean can even be used to clean the toilet bowl—just spray it in and around the toilet, then wipe away with paper towels.
Where to Use This Bathroom Cleaner
This homemade vinegar-based bathroom cleaner can be used all over the bathroom. It can be sprayed onto countertops, showers, and bathtubs. It can even be used on the bathroom floor along with a microfiber mop. This homemade bathroom cleaner can also be used to clean toilets, but don't use the same rag or cloth across surfaces—use disposable paper towels instead.
This cleaner can also scrub away at tough stains in the shower or sink, but take care when using it near grout or tile—vinegar can eat away at tile or grout given a long enough exposure, so don't let the bathroom cleaner sit on the surfaces for very long.
